Start with a measured takeoff

Measure each room's length and width at the floor, then add closets and connected areas separately. For an uncomplicated 12-by-15-foot room, the base area is 180 square feet. Irregular alcoves, angled walls, doorways and continuous layouts should be measured as a sketch, not rounded down to a convenient number. Confirm the installer’s layout before treating a DIY measurement as final.

A cutting allowance is project-specific. A simple rectangle laid straight may need less than a diagonal pattern or a room with many returns. Pick an allowance with the person planning the installation, and state it separately from measured area so nobody mistakes purchased coverage for installed coverage.

Convert coverage into full cartons

Example only: 180 sq. ft. plus an illustrative 8% cutting allowance is 194.4 sq. ft. At 23.88 sq. ft. per carton, 194.4 ÷ 23.88 = 8.14, so the order rounds up to 9 cartons, or 214.92 sq. ft. before confirming lot, cuts and final layout. This is quantity arithmetic, not a price quote or waste recommendation.

Include the items that finish the floor

List the transition conditions on a room plan: doorway-to-doorway joints, edges against carpet, exposed edges at a slider, stair edges and perimeter finishes. Lions trim profiles are purpose-specific; a T-molding is not interchangeable with a reducer or end cap. Count each run, account for the documented piece length, and verify color compatibility and availability before placing the material order.

SPC cartons include attached pad in many Lions collections; that attached pad is not a moisture barrier. Do not automatically add another foam pad. Follow the collection’s current installation instructions for substrate, barrier and accessory requirements.
