Residential Flooring for Every Room in Your Orlando Home

Every room in your home places different demands on flooring. We match the right material and installation method to each space — because what works in a bedroom will fail in a bathroom.

Living Room & Open-Plan Areas

The main living area is the anchor of your home's aesthetic. It's also a high-traffic zone that connects to kitchens, hallways, and entryways — meaning flooring must look great and hold up to everyday family life, pets, and Orlando's seasonal humidity. Wide-plank LVP (7" or wider) creates an open, spacious feel while providing waterproof protection. Engineered hardwood gives a premium look for homeowners who want the warmth of real wood.

Recommended: SPC luxury vinyl plank (12–20 mil) or engineered hardwood for open-plan living and dining areas. Consistent flooring across connected spaces creates a seamless look.

Kitchen & Dining Room

Kitchens demand flooring that is 100% waterproof, resistant to dropped items and food stains, and easy to clean. Orlando kitchens face the added challenge of humidity coming in from doors and windows during Florida's long summer season. SPC-core LVP handles all of these demands while looking as good as hardwood. Large-format porcelain tile (24×24" or 24×48") is the most durable and waterproof choice, though it is harder underfoot and takes longer to install.

Recommended: SPC luxury vinyl plank for comfort and speed; large-format porcelain tile for maximum durability. Avoid solid hardwood and standard laminate in kitchens.

Master Bedroom & Bedrooms

Bedrooms are lower-humidity environments in most Florida homes with good HVAC, making them one of the few spaces where real hardwood, laminate, and bamboo can perform reliably long-term. Engineered hardwood in the master bedroom adds warmth, resale appeal, and a premium feel that LVP can't quite replicate. Carpet remains the most comfortable and acoustically quiet option for children's bedrooms. For homeowners wanting a single flooring type throughout, LVP extends seamlessly from living areas through bedrooms without height transitions.

Recommended: Engineered hardwood or carpet for comfort-focused bedrooms; LVP for continuity with the rest of the home.

Bathrooms & Laundry Rooms

Bathrooms are the most demanding flooring environment in any home: standing water, steam, humidity spikes from showering, and cleaning chemicals all occur daily. Porcelain tile is the only truly appropriate flooring for shower floors and bathroom floors — it is completely impervious to water at the surface and, when installed over a properly waterproofed substrate (Schluter Kerdi or RedGard), protects the subfloor indefinitely. SPC-core LVP is an acceptable alternative for half baths and powder rooms where standing water is less likely.

Recommended: Porcelain tile for full bathrooms, wet rooms, and laundry rooms. Never use laminate, solid hardwood, or bamboo in any bathroom.

Staircases & Hallways

Staircases are one of the highest-wear surfaces in any home — every step concentrates foot traffic on a small area, and the nosing (the front edge of each step) takes a particular beating. LVP stair installation requires stair-nose molding to protect exposed edges and create a finished look. Hardwood staircases can be pre-finished or site-finished; pre-finished is faster and more consistent, while site-finished allows for custom staining that matches existing floors exactly. Carpet on stairs provides the best slip resistance and sound dampening.

Recommended: LVP with stair nosing for modern continuity; hardwood for premium aesthetic; carpet for safety and sound in family homes.

Whole-Home Renovation

Replacing flooring throughout an entire home is a significant investment — and the most impactful single renovation you can make to your property's value and livability. A unified flooring material across all main-floor living areas creates an open, connected feel and eliminates mismatched transitions. Cavalieri Flooring handles whole-home installations end to end: old flooring removal across all rooms, subfloor assessment and repair, phased room-by-room installation to keep most of your home livable during the project, and final trim installation and cleanup.

Recommended: LVP throughout main floor for cohesion and value; engineered hardwood in bedrooms if budget allows; tile in all wet rooms. Ask about whole-home pricing packages.

Why Florida's Climate Matters for Residential Flooring

Humidity & Indoor Moisture

Central Florida averages 74% relative humidity year-round, with summer months regularly exceeding 85%. This is the single most important environmental factor for residential flooring in Orlando. Wood-core products — solid hardwood, standard bamboo, and some LVP lines with wood-composite cores — absorb ambient moisture, swell along edges, and can develop gaps or cups with seasonal humidity changes.

SPC-core LVP is inert to humidity at any level — it will not warp, swell, or cup regardless of outdoor conditions or how long a room goes without air conditioning. For homes that are occasionally vacant or have inconsistent HVAC use (vacation properties, rental homes), SPC is the only safe choice.

Slab-on-Grade Moisture in Florida Homes

The vast majority of Central Florida homes are built on concrete slab-on-grade foundations. Concrete slabs emit moisture vapor continuously — even decades after they were poured — due to Florida's high water table. Without proper moisture testing before installation, adhesive-backed flooring and engineered hardwood glue-down installations can delaminate within 12–18 months.

Every Cavalieri Flooring residential project includes a subfloor moisture assessment. When readings exceed safe thresholds, we apply a moisture mitigation membrane before installing new flooring — protecting your investment and keeping your manufacturer warranty valid.

Pets, Kids & Florida Grit

Florida homes accumulate fine sand, pollen, and outdoor grit year-round through doors and windows — and this grit acts as an abrasive against thin wear layers. Homes with dogs are particularly demanding: pet nails scratch and abrade thin residential LVP within a few years. Children's play areas experience concentrated impact and spill events that can penetrate laminate and thin LVP.

For homes with pets or young children, we recommend 20 mil minimum wear layer on all LVP throughout living areas, and porcelain tile in high-moisture or high-mess zones. Engineered hardwood with aluminum-oxide finish is a durable option for homes that want real wood without sacrificing scratch resistance.

Thermal Expansion & Expansion Gaps

Florida's summer temperatures — combined with air conditioning cycling on and off — create significant daily thermal expansion and contraction cycles. Flooring installed without correct expansion gaps buckles when heat drives dimensional change across large floor areas. This is a common DIY installation failure we see in Florida homes and a leading cause of voided warranties.

Our crews calculate expansion gaps based on room dimensions, HVAC setpoints, and solar exposure — not just a generic minimum spec. For rooms with large south- or west-facing glass and direct sun exposure, we increase expansion allowances accordingly. This local expertise prevents buckling before it ever starts.

All Residential Flooring Types — One Installer

We install every major residential flooring type, so you never have to manage multiple contractors for a whole-home renovation:

  • Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP/SPC): Waterproof, click-lock or glue-down, 12–28 mil wear layer options
  • Engineered Hardwood: Real wood veneer over stable plywood core; glue-down or floating installation
  • Laminate: AC3–AC5 rated, floating installation, budget-friendly option for dry rooms
  • Porcelain & Ceramic Tile: Floor, shower, backsplash, and large-format tile installation
  • Carpet: Cut-pile, loop-pile, and plush carpet with premium pad installation
  • Bamboo: Strand-woven and engineered bamboo for eco-conscious homeowners

Residential Flooring Installation FAQs

We install all major residential flooring types in Orlando-area homes: luxury vinyl plank (LVP/SPC), engineered hardwood, solid hardwood, laminate, porcelain and ceramic tile, carpet, and bamboo. Our showroom at 4301 36th St #101 in Orlando lets you walk on real samples and compare collections before committing.

Residential installation in Orlando typically costs $3–$15 per square foot installed. Laminate runs $3–$6; LVP $4–$8; carpet $3–$7; engineered hardwood $6–$12; porcelain tile $7–$15. Custom patterns add $3–$5 per square foot. Old flooring removal, leveling, and moisture barrier work are priced separately. Contact us for a free room-by-room estimate.

For most Florida homes, SPC-core luxury vinyl plank is the best all-around choice — 100% waterproof, handles 70–90% humidity without warping, installs over slab-on-grade without acclimation, and costs less than tile or hardwood. Porcelain tile is the most durable for wet areas. Engineered hardwood is the right choice for bedrooms and living areas where the look and feel of real wood is the priority.

Single rooms take 1–2 days. An open-plan living and dining area (400–600 sq ft) takes 2–3 days including subfloor prep. A full main floor (1,000–1,500 sq ft) takes 3–5 days. Whole-home installations (2,000+ sq ft) are typically completed in 5–8 days. Tile and hardwood installations take longer due to adhesive cure times and acclimation requirements. We provide a room-by-room schedule during your estimate.

Yes. We offer complete floor removal and haul-away as part of our full-service residential installation. Old carpet, LVP, laminate, hardwood, and tile are removed, disposed of, and the subfloor is inspected before new flooring goes in. This ensures your new floor performs correctly and avoids the height and moisture problems that stacking new flooring over old can create.

Yes — all furniture must be cleared from the installation area before our crew arrives. We recommend moving furniture to an adjacent room in stages for large installs. We do not move or reassemble furniture, electronics, pianos, or safes. Kitchen appliances (refrigerator, dishwasher) must be emptied and disconnected before kitchen flooring work begins. Our project coordinator will provide a full prep checklist when your job is scheduled.

Porcelain tile is the gold standard for full waterproof performance in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchen wet zones. For shower floors and walls, porcelain tile with properly waterproofed substrate (Schluter Kerdi or RedGard membrane) is the only correct choice. SPC-core LVP is an excellent alternative for kitchens and half baths — it is 100% waterproof, warmer underfoot than tile, and much faster to install. Laminate and engineered hardwood should never be used in bathrooms.

In some cases yes, but it's generally not recommended for Florida homes. Installing new LVP over existing vinyl adds height that causes threshold and door problems. In Florida, moisture trapped between layers can cause adhesion failure and mold. We almost always recommend removing the existing floor so we can assess and treat the subfloor — protecting your new floor's warranty and long-term performance.

Central Florida averages 74% relative humidity year-round. Wood-core products — solid hardwood, bamboo, and some LVP lines — absorb ambient moisture and can swell, cup, or gap with seasonal changes. SPC-core LVP and porcelain tile are completely inert to humidity. For solid or engineered hardwood, proper acclimation (3–7 days on-site) and correct expansion gaps are critical. We spec only products proven to perform in Florida's humidity — never products that may work in drier climates.

SPC luxury vinyl plank is the more practical choice for most rooms: waterproof, humidity-stable, faster to install, and less expensive. Engineered hardwood is the better choice when real wood aesthetics matter most — for master bedrooms, formal living rooms, or homes where resale to wood-floor buyers is a consideration. Many Orlando homeowners choose LVP throughout kitchens, entryways, and main living areas, and engineered hardwood in the master bedroom — getting the best of both.

6–8 mil wear layer is adequate only for low-traffic bedrooms. 12 mil is the standard for main living areas. 20 mil is recommended for entryways, mudrooms, and homes with pets or heavy foot traffic. In Florida homes, we recommend 12 mil minimum for all areas due to fine outdoor grit that acts as an abrasive against thinner wear layers. All CALI Floors LVP products we carry are available in 12–28 mil options.

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation in-home estimates for all residential flooring projects in the Orlando area. Our estimator measures your rooms, assesses the subfloor condition, reviews product options, and provides a written room-by-room price breakdown. We provide a 5-year installation workmanship warranty on all residential projects, covering defects in installation technique — improper seams, buckling from incorrect expansion gaps, and adhesive failure. This is separate from the manufacturer's product warranty (CALI Floors carries a lifetime residential warranty on click-lock LVP). Our warranty is transferable if you sell your home within the warranty period.

"From the showroom visit to the final walkthrough — seamless experience. I appreciated that they didn't try to upsell me on the most expensive floor in the store. They listened to how we actually use the space, recommended the right product, and nailed the installation. Five stars."
