What they needed from Cavalieri Flooring was an installer who understood the specific demands of a large-scale bamboo glue-down on concrete slab in Central Florida's climate. The installation had to be planned and executed as a single-phase project to maintain consistent layout across the entire open space.
Why Strand-Woven Bamboo?
Strand-woven bamboo is the densest, hardest form of bamboo flooring available. Unlike traditional bamboo — which is made from flattened or laminated bamboo strips — strand-woven bamboo is created by shredding bamboo fibers into fine strands, saturating them with resin, and compressing them under extreme pressure and heat. The result is a material with a Janka hardness rating of 3,000+ lbf — nearly twice as hard as red oak and significantly harder than most domestic hardwood species.

The Challenge: 2,000 Sq Ft in a Single Phase on Slab
Large-scale bamboo glue-down installations on concrete slab require precise planning before the first plank goes down. Our preparation process for this project included:
Moisture assessment: Concrete slab moisture readings at 20+ test points across the full installation area. Florida slabs can have moisture variation across a large footprint, and high readings in any zone require moisture mitigation before proceeding.
Subfloor flatness: The concrete was ground and patched to achieve flatness within 3/16" over 10 feet. High spots under bamboo glue-down create stress concentrations that can cause planks to crack or separate from the adhesive over time.
72-hour acclimation: All bamboo was brought on-site and allowed to acclimate in the conditioned space for 72 hours before installation — critical for a product that will be glued in place and unable to move seasonally.
Layout centering: With a 2,000 sq ft open-plan space, we started from the visual center and worked outward to ensure balanced cuts at all perimeter walls — a full-width plank look from every door and sightline.
Phased adhesive application: Full-spread urethane adhesive was applied in sections sized to our crew's working speed, ensuring no adhesive skinned over before planks were set. This is where installer experience directly affects outcome quality.

The completed installation transformed the home's interior character entirely.
