Pre-Installation

Before you begin installation, remember to P.A.C.E. yourself with the checklist below.

P.A.C.E. Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Prepare Job Site
  • Acclimation
  • Control Subfloor Moisture
  • Environmental Conditions
Quick Tip: Cavalieri Laguna vinyl uses a drop-lock installation system for the fastest, easiest install. 100% waterproof with no acclimation required. No power saws needed — score and snap with a utility knife.

Material Preparation

Order 5% extra for cutting waste and grading. Inspect all planks in daylight before installation. Shuffle from multiple cartons for best color blend.

Subfloor Requirements

  • Clean, dry, flat to 3/16" per 10-foot radius
  • Wood: Securely fastened, moisture ≤ 13%
  • Concrete: Fully cured (60+ days). Moisture barrier required. Max 8 lbs calcium chloride or 90% RH
  • Existing hard floors: Well-bonded, clean, and level

Radiant Heat

Compatible with floating installation only. Max surface temp 85°F.

Expansion Gap

Leave 1/4" around all walls and fixed objects.

Drop-Lock Floating Installation

Quick Tip: The drop-lock system is the fastest vinyl plank installation method. Planks lock by simply dropping the short end into place after engaging the long edge — no angling required on the short side.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Measure room width. Ensure final row ≥ 1/3 plank width. Leave 1/4" expansion gap around all walls.

Step 2: Begin along the longest, straightest wall with spacers. Cut tongue off first row.

Step 3: For the first row, connect planks end-to-end by aligning the short end and dropping into place.

Step 4: For subsequent rows, angle the long edge of the new plank into the previous row at 20° and press down to lock. Then slide the plank along until the short end aligns with the previous plank and drop to lock the short end.

Step 5: Cut the last plank in each row. Use the remaining piece to start the next row if ≥ 8" long. Stagger joints by at least 6".

Step 6: Use rubber mallet and tapping block to ensure full engagement on both edges.

Step 7: Rip the final row to width maintaining the expansion gap.

Step 8: Remove spacers. Install transition moldings and baseboards.

Care & Maintenance

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly with soft-bristle broom or vacuum without beater bar.
  • Damp mop with pH-neutral vinyl cleaner. No steam mops or abrasive cleaners.
  • Wipe up spills promptly. Use felt pads under furniture.
  • Place doormats at entrances. Maintain temperature 60°F–80°F, humidity 35%–55%.
  • Use blinds or curtains to limit UV exposure.
