Pre-Installation

Before you begin installation, remember to P.A.C.E. yourself with the checklist below.

P.A.C.E. Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Prepare Job Site
  • Acclimation
  • Control Subfloor Moisture
  • Environmental Conditions
Important: Santa Cruz laminate must acclimate for 48 hours in the installation room before beginning. Keep planks in unopened boxes, laid flat, at 65°F–85°F.

Acclimation & Environment

48 hours minimum acclimation. Temperature 65°F–85°F, humidity 35%–65% during installation and year-round. HVAC must be running.

Subfloor Requirements

  • Flat, clean, dry. Max 3/16" variation over 10 feet.
  • Wood: Securely fastened, moisture ≤ 13%
  • Concrete: Fully cured (60+ days). Moisture barrier required.

Underlayment & Expansion

Quality underlayment required. On concrete, use moisture barrier underneath. Leave 1/4" to 3/8" expansion gap around all walls and fixed objects.

Floating Click-Lock Installation

Installation Steps

Step 1: Install underlayment. Tape all seams.

Step 2: Measure room. Ensure last row ≥ 2-1/2" wide.

Step 3: Begin along longest wall with spacers. Cut tongue off first row.

Step 4: Connect planks by angling and clicking. Stagger end joints by at least 12".

Step 5: Use tapping block and rubber mallet to engage. Never strike directly.

Step 6: Rip final row to width. Remove spacers and install trim.

Quick Tip: Use a miter saw or circular saw for clean cuts — laminate cannot be scored and snapped like vinyl.

Care & Maintenance

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly. Damp mop with laminate-specific cleaner.
  • Do NOT use wet mops, steam mops, or excessive water — laminate is NOT waterproof.
  • Wipe up spills immediately. Use felt pads under furniture.
  • Maintain temperature 65°F–85°F, humidity 35%–65%.
